2009 was a great tournament year for "Lucky Stripes" with several 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes. Capt. Mike Greene also landed a 58.81 pound striper in 2009 which held up for largest fish of the year in The Fisherman dream Boat Contest as well as fish of the month for the On the Water Magazine Striper Cup. In 2010 we will be fishing all of the local tournaments again plus all of the ASA stops but one. All up to date tournament placings including 2010 are listed below.
High Point Striper Shootout
Red Men Striped Bass Tournament
Michaels B n T Great Kills Harbor Striped Bass Open
Atlas Reels and Lucky Stripes Teaming up For ASA
This Year we will be fishing the ASA Striper tournament series along with our new sponsor, Atlas Reels. This series is new to us and we will have to learn new waters and techniques. We are very excited and should be a ton of fun.
Thrid Stop= Atlantic Highlands, NJ
The third stop was also out of Sandy Hook, NJ on June 5th, 2010. The fishing was a little slow but we managed to get a 37.9 and a 30.5 the first day leaving us in decent shape going into the 2nd day. At least it made the 70 mile run to the weigh in worth it. We new we would need to improve the second fish to finish in the money. As it turned out we would need a 33+ pounder to finish in the money. We started the second day back off BI but the water was really dirty so we wound up running up to Shark River. Got started a little late and didnt get into a bite til the last hour. First fish was a hi 20s and not gonna help. Then with little time left we got into a nice one. Pulled the hook about 8 feet from the boat on a fish that was in the high 30s-low 40s which would have put us in the money. Sucked but thats the way luck goes sometime. Was some ride home into that 20KT south wind in th 21! Ended up in 6th for the weekend and left us in 3rd overall for the year in the asa standings.
Second Stop= Atlantic Highlands, NJ
The second stop was in Sandy Hook, NJ on May 15, 2010. We were on the fish for most of the day during the Bahrs Landing ASA . The only problem was we could not get into those bigger size class fish. Ended the day with around 30 fish but the two biggest ony giving us 50.5 lbs total leaving us in 6th. Ken Zwirko of Team Atlas Reels- Bunker Down took first with 63.75 pound total. This did leave us in 2nd overall for the year.
First Stop= VA Beach, VA
The First stop was down in Virginia Beach January 7, 2010. The Mid Atlantic Rockfish Shootout proved to be some tough fishing with air temperatures in the 20s and water temperatures dropping into the low 40s. Despite long runs, cold water temperatures, and some slow fishing we did manage to put a decent catch together with our two biggest fish total equaling 65.15 pounds leaving us in 6th place to start the year.
